Week 11 - OPEN WEEK

8-2. The regular season is complete. The last game left an incredibly bad taste in all our mouths. Nobody wants to lose to the crosstown rival. Nobody wants to play as poorly as we did in the rival game. But for now, we have to put that aside and move onto what’s ahead.

This team has accomplished great things. This is the 56th team in the history of Laurel County/South Laurel High school. it’s only the third time in the last quarter century that South Laurel has won eight games or more in a single season. The playoffs are still ahead. But first, comes the “Open“ week.

Every team in the state has one week during the season where they do not play a game. Our open week falls at the very end of the regular season. To us that’s a big advantage. Gives us an opportunity to get back to some fundamental work in practice. Gives us an opportunity to rest some guys that are really banged up. But more than that, it gives us an opportunity to spend extra time on our first round playoff opponent. The playoffs are a special time, and it takes a special mentality to be successful in the playoffs. It takes a certain mentality to make the playoffs, but it’s a whole ’nother level to win playoff games.

But that’s the plan. This team will go after every playoff opponent just as we have gone after every aspect of this season. WAO!
