Week 5 - Wayne County Cardinals
Three amazing historical things came to light this past Friday night after the victory over Whitley County.
1) The win over Whitley County was the 150th victory in the history of South Laurel High School football.
2) Since 2006, Whitley County and South Laurel have played each other 10 times in football. Until Friday night, Whitley County had won all ten.
3) No team, in the 56 year history of Laurel County/South Laurel High School football has ever started the season 4 - 0..… Until Friday night.
And while it’s exciting to think about those things, the real fact is that Wayne County doesn’t care about any of that. Game five will be a very tough test for our “Cardinals” We travel to Wayne County on Friday night. Wayne County, (also the Cardinals), are a very proud program. It’s a tough place to play, with the grandstands full of fans and they’re right on top of you. It’s the only game we will play on grass this season. And, Wayne County is traditionally a very physical, tough, hard nosed football team that will get after you all night long. Make plans to come and go with us to Wayne County High School on Friday night, as the South Laurel “Cardinals” take the field for game number five.
