DEAD PERIOD.
The Kentucky High School Athletic Association (KHSAA) mandates that June 25 through July 9 is the “Dead Period.” That means no practice, no workouts, no anything, for any school team. It is a total shut-down period. We agree that it is a time that kids need to be away from sports, coaches, and all the atmosphere of high school athletics.
At South Laurel, we are going to take a longer break. We won’t start real “Training Camp” style practices until July 21st. It is a full 4 week block of time. That is for all players to:
Go on vacation with the family
Visit grandparents, go to family reunions, etc.
Get “back to school” doctor’s visits done
Enjoy some time with friends doing “summer” things.
Because when we get started with Training Camp practice on July 21, it is all football. It is a time of very intense practice, and preparation for a season that is only a short 3 weeks away. Here is the schedule:
21st – 25th – Football Practice (at the South Laurel Football Facility)
28th-30th – Practice continues
31st- 3rd of August – Team Camp at Kentucky Wesleyan University
5th – 7th – Practice at South Laurel Football Facility
7th – First Day of School for all students and faculty
8th – South Laurel scrimmage vs. Middlesboro High School
It happens fast. So, players, enjoy the break, and come back in great shape. Parents, help us make sure all players are 100% at all practices. Also, parents, plan your fall Fridays. Its gonna be fun!
